How is your gut? How is your gut feeling?
We all have both physical gut feelings – like, the feelings we experience when we are literally digesting food – and emotional gut feelings, as in the feelings we feel in our gut region when we are trying to decide what to do with ourselves.
These two abilities of the gut are linked. Our guts digest BOTH the physical food we eat, AND the spiritual input we are exposed to.
Our clarity of "gut" is just as important as clarity of mind to making good decisions in our lives.
NO ONE is fully happen when they have digestion issues, gut lining issues, bowel issues.
Having gut problems is just one of those things that puts a damper on anyone's day (to put it lightly!).
Having a properly functioning gut paves the way for a generally happy life, just in terms of digestion and physical feelings.
But having a properly functioning gut is absolutely imperative to being able to move forward spiritually in the ways we want to, also.
All spiritual phenomena is processed by the physical body using physical means.
This is why we so often process spiritual information through the GUT.
Those "gut feelings" that something is good or bad is spiritual information that is being processed through the physical gut.
I bet we've all heard stories of how important it is to trust your gut, and you probably have stories about this yourself.
I remember during my fifth pregnancy, my baby and I had a blood incompatibility that put us both at risk. At first things were fine, but when I hit 34 weeks along, I found out that my titers had spiked and now the baby's situation was critical. I had been with a homebirth midwife, but we transferred me to the maternofetal medicine department at the local hospital, and they wanted to do TONS of extremely expensive tests on me twice a week to make sure the baby was okay.
I told my doctor at that time that I was REALLY in tune with my body, and I would prefer to limit testing. I told her, "I know this sounds stupid and dangerous, but I really promise: I know when things are going wrong. I will call you the very second I know something is wrong. And in the meantime, I want to limit testing to the tests I feel are important on the timing I feel is important."
And I really lucked out with this doctor, because she stopped and thought for a moment, and then said, "You know, statistically speaking, a mother's intuition on what is going on with her baby is about as accurate as an actual test. Okay. We'll do it your way, if you feel good about it."
What!! It was a huge miracle and blessing, because we were not insured and I had to pay for every multi-thousand-dollar test in cash and I knew that most of them would not be necessary.
Indeed, listening to my gut feelings about my pregnancy led to a perfectly fine and safe birth even in a high risk circumstance, and I was SO glad that doctor trusted me to trust my gut.
And I feel so glad I was in a space that I KNEW I could trust my gut.
A lot of us actually feel very betrayed by our guts.
When we have chronic digestion problems, we feel let down and betrayed by our guts.
When we have trusted what we thought was a gut feeling, and then things went badly, we can feel very betrayed by our guts.
Healing from past feelings of gut betrayal and stepping into new patterns of trust with our bodies is critical to having a functional relationship with our guts.
